‘Yo Mama got Bills

I’ve Got Bills I Gotta Pay

Assignment:Dramatic Reading Remix 4.5 stars

Assignment Description:”For this assignment, take a song that you love, and record yourself doing a dramatic reading of the lyrics. Then take another piece of music (obviously without lyrics) and set your dramatic reading to it. This should result in something that sounds very different than the original song. Post both the original song (for comparison) and your new dramatic reading remix in a blog post.”

Why this song?: Besides being one of the top songs of 2015, “Bills” by Lunchmoney Lewis is one of my all time favorite songs.  I could listen to it on repeat until my brains turned to mush.  That being said, the lyrics aren’t super dramatic. So then I thought, one is the one song without lyrics that can bring drama and excitement to any song…. Pirates of the Caribbean! I decided to combine part of “Bills” with a part of Pirates of the Caribbean theme song.  I think it sounds a little funny at some points, but I guess thats some of the fun in it!

Process:  In order to make the songs sound like they fit, I started off by recording my speaking of “Bills” while listening the Pirates of Caribbean song in my headphones. I recorded the speech to SoundCloud, then I uploaded it as an mp3. I then uploaded both the Bills file and the Pirates of the Caribbean song onto Audacity.  I cut the tracks so that they were the same length and began where I wanted them to.  When I was done editing the tracks, I exported it as an mp3 so that I could upload it on SoundCloud for the final result. This assignment was slightly frustrating in the beginning because SoundCloud was  being very slow with my upload the first time, and I realized that it wouldn’t upload quickly if it was over 2 minutes. I dealt with it by just recording a shorter part of the song instead.
